Role Description

Research Assistant in ML Technologies and Modelling for Aerospace Systems

We welcome applications from prospective Research Assistants in ML Technologies and Modelling for Aerospace Systems with relevant knowledge and experience, to work on various industrial and research agency funded projects.

About the Role

The project aims to enhance sensor data accuracy and reliability in fuel tank gauging systems by developing deep learning and physics-informed deep learning models. These models will calibrate raw pressure sensor data to capacitive sensor data and incorporate flight variables to improve accuracy for two different fuel tank types. Collaborating with Airbus, the project involves data collection tests under simulated flight conditions for various tank geometries. Test data analysis will refine the models, culminating in a Gauging Algorithm software package to optimize sensor performance and ensure reliability in operational scenarios.

As a Research Assistant you will contribute to the research activities of the Centre for Autonomous and Cyber-physical Systems, especially concerning the specific projects described above. You will be expected to collaborate with the existing staff working in the area and have communications and meetings with our collaborators within the university or in other international universities.

About You

You will be educated to M.Sc. level and have experience and expertise in aerospace system design, data analysis and ML/AI model implementation.  Your expertise should demonstrate a track record of publications in the design, development, and programming of AI-based software for aerospace systems, affirming a significant record of accomplishment. As part of your work, you will apply practical experience with AI software development and toolchains.

You will be expected to meet stringent project deadlines, guaranteeing punctual delivery of high-quality outcomes. Your communication and presentation skills should be outstanding, crafted to resonate with a diverse audience comprising students, industry partners, and research collaborators. Balancing technical proficiency with the expertise and the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly and persuasively.
